Meet Our Team

At Operation Second Stride, our strength lies in the heart and dedication of the people who lead and serve. Behind every session, every retreat, and every breakthrough moment between horse and human is a team driven by compassion, purpose, and a deep respect for those who serve our communities.

Our Board of Directors

Our Board brings together diverse backgrounds in public service, nonprofit leadership, equine care, and trauma-informed practice. Each member is united by a common mission: to create a safe, empowering space where first responders and retired racehorses can find renewed connection, purpose, and stride—together.

Their leadership ensures our program remains sustainable, mission-driven, and rooted in integrity.

Our Facilitators

Our facilitators bring decades of hands-on experience working with thoroughbreds and a deep understanding of the first responder community. With over 30 years of connecting with those who run toward crisis and caring for horses bred for speed and spirit, they offer a unique and powerful blend of insight, empathy, and skill.

Trained in Natural Lifemanship principles, our facilitators guide each session with a steady hand and a compassionate heart. Their lifelong relationship with horses and long-standing connection to first responders allow them to create a space where trust can be rebuilt, nervous systems can regulate, and meaningful transformation can begin.

Every interaction is grounded in respect—for the horse, the human, and the journey they take together.

Stacie Nichols

Board Chair, President, Facilitator

Stacie Nichols brings nearly 50 years of experience working with horses and over two decades as an Equine Bodywork professional and recently certified as an Equine Nutrition Practitioner. As the founder of Operation Second Stride, she blends her lifelong passion for horses with a deep understanding of the needs of first responders, drawn from her 40-year partnership with her husband Tom, a retired firefighter of 35 years, and their family’s long-standing dedication to public service. Stacie’s commitment to trauma-informed care and her training in Natural Lifemanship form the foundation of the program’s mission: to support healing, connection, and resilience through the powerful bond between humans and horses— especially off-track thoroughbreds whose journeys parallel those of the first responders with whom they now form meaningful partnerships.
