Meet the Horses

Say hello to Ardie (short for Ardacious)

A spirited blend of heart, hustle, and humor! Ardie is a smart, sensitive soul with a strong work ethic and a playful streak that keeps everyone on their toes. Though he’s overcome his share of physical challenges, he’s now thriving in his forever home, where his big personality and athleticism shine every day. Quite the character, Ardie keeps us laughing and inspired with every stride!

Meet Charlie (legal deed)

This 17-hand charismatic Thoroughbred raced 34 times with multiple wins before transitioning into an eventing career. After years of dedication and adventure with his loving owner, Charlie was retired due to kissing spine and gifted a forever home in our program. Full of personality and always ready to make you laugh, Charlie brings a big heart, a bold spirit, and a playful sense of humor to the farm.

Meet Jesse

Our sweet and spirited senior! Registered with the Jockey Club but never raced, Jesse was born in May 1992 and came into our family when he was 11. Though originally meant for Stacie, he quickly won over her daughter’s heart and became her show jumping partner through the United States Pony Club—earning top honors at Nationals, including a 1st and 3rd place finish! Though a bit of a nervous guy, Jesse is one of the kindest souls we’ve ever known. He’s still full of life and loves nothing more than a good run in the field with his buddies.

Meet Spanish Ladd (Ladd for short)

The spirited little powerhouse! Born in May 1998, this energetic POA has done it all—from Pony Club Games to hunt races and trail rides. He may be small, and he may not be a Thoroughbred (one of these things is not like the others!), but he holds his own with plenty of attitude and heart. Ladd doesn’t take any nonsense from the herd—or from uninvited critters—and he’s always happy to accept a carrot or two along the way!

Introducing Princess Tiny

AKA Princess, our petite powerhouse! Born on May 12, 2014, this 15-hand Thoroughbred gave racing a try with 4 starts but quickly decided it wasn’t her thing. After a successful run in the 2019 Retired Racehorse Project, she joined our farm in August 2020 from Queenstown, MD. Since then, Princess has gone through the Natural Lifemanship principles and has learned to regulate her nervous system in ways we never dreamed possible—what a journey she’s had, and what a long way she’s come!

Meet Sadie

Our sweet and stoic Warmblood matriarch! Born in May 1998, Sadie came to us at age 11 and has overcome more than her fair share—rehabbing from a collateral injury and even bouncing back from colic surgery on Christmas Day. A talented jumper with a calm strength and a few strong opinions of her own, she now enjoys a well-earned retirement due to ringbone, a common issue in larger draft crosses like herself. With her long eyelashes and gentle spirit, Sadie is a quiet presence in the herd and never turns down a carrot!

Meet Teddy

our laid-back treat enthusiast! Foaled on April 14, 2007, Teddy ran 10 races and took home a couple of wins before retiring to the sanctuary due to soundness issues under saddle. He’s an easygoing guy who’s rarely fazed, incredibly friendly, and always in your pocket—especially if treats are involved! A known cribber, he’s got a thing for tailgates, windshields, and anything else he can get his mouth on. Gentle with the farrier and vet, Teddy is as lovable as they come and always keeps a watchful eye on his best buddy, Walt.

Please welcome Fire Waltz – AKA Walt

our delightfully in your back pocket kind of guy. Born on February 8, 2014, this 16.2-hand Thoroughbred gave racing a shot with 5 starts but quickly made it clear the track life wasn’t for him. He came to REF in 2019, and soon after, we discovered he has narcolepsy—something that runs in his family. Orphaned at just 3 days old, Walt overcame a tough start thanks to the love of a dedicated caretaker. These days, he wins hearts with his lovable quirks, gentle nature, and his love of attention. He’s rarely far from his best buddy, Teddy, who always keeps a watchful eye on him. We’re so lucky to have Walt as part of our sanctuary family.
